What do you think will help you get over your fear, or if you’re over it (or living with it)…how?
Would owning your own car help?
Is it necessary to drive every single day-even when you don’t have a reason?
Should you take lessons? With a friend/relative? A professional?
I’d like to hear what helps YOU!

Definately additional/advanced lessons and absolutely definately with a professional.
I recently took some refresher lessons with a driving instructor after a break from driving for eleven years and it did me the world of good. You can concentrate on your weak areas and learn to do things properly. I think this should be a requirement for everyone anyway, get rid of all those bad habits people build up over the years.
It’s made me a lot less nervous and I would recommend it to anyone. Especially if, like me your nervousness springs from an ex constantly telling you you’re a bad driver. Having a professional tell me I’m a good driver helped to negate all the self doubt.
Also sat nav, I wouldn’t go anywhere without it. Even if the worst happens and you get flustered and take a wrong turning your sat nav will get you where you need to go.

Good responses!
Personally, I am ok driving alone, but afraid to drive with anyone else. May be hiring a professional is the way to go. I remember every time that someone has told me I’m a bad driver. It’s so hard to shake that off-a professional opinion might be just the thing!

Having someone with me helps reduce my anxiety and driving when it is less congested on the roads helps a lot too.
My thanks to all the people who have aided, abetted, suggested and helped test this plugin

Let Us Know What You Think!
If you have a success story, review, or article submission you think would be a good addition to this site, let us know by sending us a note to info@fearofdriving.net.
Is Full Recovery Possible?
Absolutely! With the right help and knowledge, you can overcome your driving phobia completely.
Is the Fear of Driving a Rare Phobia?
No way! Many sources put it in the top 10 most common fears and some even in the top 3.
Is My Anxiety Dangerous?
No. One of the first things any good program or therapist will teach you is that your feelings of anxiety or panic are in no way dangerous and don't mean you're having a heart attack, dying, or going crazy.
Can You Recommend a Therapist?
We review some of the more popular programs that are used for the fear of driving, but we can't recommend individual therapists since we have no idea about their therapeutic style, knowledge, etc.
