Generalized fear?

4:49 pm April 16, 2009 Kitty New Member posts 1	Hello everyone! I’m 22 and am trying for my license. I have a learners right now. I’m forcing myself to practice everyday, but I’m scared of, it really. Not to mention that I’ve been pretty freaked out that I’m not uh, not going to have a job anymore, stupid economy, grrrr grraghh, grumble. The problem is, I can’t really pinpoint why? I’ve had nightmares about it, but they are always the same scenario: I’m driving, but I don’t have a licence, and I’m terrified I’m going to get pulled over. Its always a really short distance, like the next street over, but I panic. However, when I’m actually in the car cops are my last worry. As far as I know I haven’t had any traumatic car experiences. Its just frustrating because I really can’t figure out what exactly I’m frighted about. There are things that worry me, like making lefts against traffic, and complex busy intersections, but nothing concrete. Its like the moment I sit behind the wheel, and I have it in my hands, I feel panicky. The car doesn’t even have to be ON! Does anyone else have this? Or do you have a more specific fear?

1:53 pm June 16, 2010 SaraB28 New Member posts 1	I am the same way. I am 28 yrs old and have never had my license. I’ve had my temps several times…and I have a temporary license right now. I am so terrified of driving, but I’ve never been in a major accident, haven’t lost a family member or close friend in an accident, etc. I just have a fear of driving. My mom also has never had her license and has the same fear, so maybe I just picked it up from her? Sitting in the driver’s seat also gets me panicky. I just don’t know how to get over the fear, but I need to. I have 2 kids and I feel terrible not being able to take them anywhere, etc. I will sit and think to myself "Ok, I’m going to do it. I’m going to drive and I can do it" but the second I get behind the wheel I feel anxious, my stomach hurts, I forgot what I’m doing and feel like I can’t control the car and that I will hit someone else’s car.
